End of Support for IBM Maximo 7.6.1.x: Are you ready for the Transition?

As organizations increasingly rely on business solutions such as IBM Maximo Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) to manage their assets, keeping software up to date is crucial to guaranteeing the functionality and security of systems. However, time is passing quickly for organizations still using version 7.6.1.x of IBM Maximo EAM.

IBM will officially end support for this version on September 30, 2025After that, it will no longer provide critical fixes, patches or security updates. This means that users will be left vulnerable to security risks, without access to essential updates and patches, hindering their ability to optimize asset performance.

Here the idea is to explore the implications of the end of support for Maximo 7.6.1.x and offer valuable insights to help organizations prepare for a smooth and efficient transition from the old version to the new version, i.e. Maximo Application Suite 9, yes, if you thought MA8, know that we are already on MAS9!

Why should you upgrade and what are the risks of staying with Maximo 7.6.1.x?

MAS9 concept: The first and most important point is the concept of the IBM Maximo Application Suite. Before, the company had the EAM and its modules, often using other systems connected to IBM Maximo, such as mobile, one person collecting sensor data and making reports and without any data, with a lot of work, building data forecasts. With the IBM Maximo application Suite, this is all a thing of the past. In a single suite, the company will have Manager (formerly EAM), integrated Mobile, with a simple-to-use interface, Monitor, for online monitoring of sensorized assets, data storage, for creating predictions by cross-referencing sensor data, along with all, that's right, all asset maintenance data. In addition to Helth for measuring asset health, Visual Inspection for various visual inspections. In other words, it takes corporate maintenance to the next level, and what we always say is, without weaving a patchwork quilt looking for systems here and there, everything is in the suite, ready to be used.

Security vulnerabilitiesYour system will become increasingly vulnerable to cyber attacks due to lack of access to critical security updates, putting sensitive data and operational efficiency at risk.

Limited functionality: Maximo 7.6.1.x will not receive any more improvements or new features, making it difficult to adapt to constantly evolving business needs and exploit technological advances.

Compliance Risks: Remaining on an unsupported system can lead to violations of regulatory requirements, resulting in legal and financial consequences.

Performance issues: Older versions of software are more prone to bugs and failures, which can affect your productivity and operational efficiency.

Limited Support: Without official IBM support, resolving technical problems will become increasingly challenging, resulting in interruptions and downtime.

End of Support (EOS) announcement for Maximo 7.6.1:

In April 2024, license sales for the IBM Maximo 7.6.1 will be closed. Until April 19, 2024, current customers will still be able to add new users. However, after this deadline, the corresponding part number will be discontinued and removed from the IBM. To incorporate additional users after this date, customers must migrate their license management to the AppPoints.

As early as September 2025, the standard support for the Maximo 7.6.1 will be terminated. The last annual renewal period for standard support will be in September 2024, with support effectively ending in September 2025. After September 2024, renewals will be offered on a monthly basis until the official end date of the program.
