What is Industry 4.0?
It's the union of Big Data, IoT (Internet of Things), Artificial Intelligence, Interconnectivity, allied to the high level of process automation, so decisions will be made more SIMPLY, quickly, assertively and online!
However, we still have a long way to go. Some professionals and companies are "putting the cart before the horse".
I'm going to make a provocation here:
1-) How mature are your processes? Are all those involved within a fluid workflow?
2-) How are the indicators managed in your organization? Is everyone involved aware that they are part of them?
3-) Decisions are made on what basis? Is there a data analysis tool for generating information? Do you still use excel?
4-) Is the data generated reliable? Is there an associated methodology? Is the data still entirely manual?
I'm sure you answered yes to some of these questions! All right, you and most companies are still at that level.
The important thing is to prepare (quickly) for Industry 4.0.
Have the processes mapped out, correct the critical points and, from this study, suggestions and Focus Groups for actions will emerge, according to the level of criticality of your company, which will be included in the roadmap!
But don't stop doing it! Don't start with a robot, if you don't have processes, don't look only at what is critical, generally, professionals put the critical ahead of the other activities and the routine becomes an endless urgency!!! If you have a critical incident today, it's because the process is broken, it needs urgent correction, so that the urgencies reduce exponentially!
McKinsey estimates that by 2025, Industry 4.0-related processes could reduce equipment maintenance costs by between 10% and 40%, reduce energy consumption by between 10% and 20% and increase work efficiency by between 10% and 25%. I always say that people are part of the process, so get your team involved, they need to be aware of the decision and be part of it, even if only in a small way. Technology alone won't make a difference, you'll need people to engage in the transformation you and your company are hoping for!
